Her Special Date
She gussied herself up. Even did her hair in his favorite way.
Put on a cute, but well worn sweater— and off they went on this Saturday morning day.
They told the kids so long and started to act like honeymoon love birds once again.
Seven years and five kids was indeed a whirlwind.
With their babysitter now in college and her parents three hours away…
Sporadic dates were a thing far out of style for their marriage season today.
They didn’t get to do these dates as often as they liked…
But still this morning her smile was indeed so very bright.
He could tell she looked at him like the first date warm, fuzzy feeling way.
She grabbed his hand and looked at him with a look to go out and play.
Brook, will you go get groceries with me?
One sentence was all it took.
He was hooked.
Driving her through town, parked the car, and opened her door.
As they walked inside, he held her hand and couldn’t imagine more.
He watched her walk the isles as he pushed the shiny cart.
His smile lines began to show with this new season as his lovely marriage revved to start.
They had meal planned the next two weeks at home for their large crew.
To return to good stewardship—the way they once had knew.
This was time outside of home.
Nothing but the two of them out here alone.
It must have been quite a spectacular sight to a little town.
Without a single grimace or a guilty frown.
The couple enjoyed alone time together.
It could have gone on for forever.
It was peaceful.
It was fun.
It brought them back to their early twenties of alone time in the Colorado sun.
They paid the checker, and off they went…
Back to everyday life with having grocery money spent.
Time together, yet accomplishing a mundane task.
She glowed the rest of the day…
and kept replaying the date to remind herself of the moments to come and the love that lasts.
Psalm 16:11New International Version
You make known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
