Little Tikes Story Time Projector: A Modern Reading Solution for Kids

Got books?
Less than a third of Americans would agree!

According to some rather shocking statistics, reading for pleasure has declined— and over half of adults after school years never open another book.

Don’t believe me? Look at the numbers yourself!*

Only 32% of the US population reads books for pleasure.

The average American reads only 12 books per year.

42% of college graduates never read another book after college.

With providing children a fun way to collide language arts and reading, it seems possible that these percentages could flip for the better with a newer education toy on the market!

I purchased the Story Time projector from the creators at Little Tikes; and found it to be a perfect medley of modern screens, audiobooks, and nostalgic stories.

It allowed my children to feel like they were watching a show without actually watching a show. The book was read at a child’s pace, which allowed sight words to be introduced.

Beyond the ability to change stories, the projector machine also allowed for the transformation into a sound machine. This made it versatile to be used not only in a preschool age room, but also that of an infant.

The only drawback I found was that each time the story was complete, it would pause. There was no continual reading and repeating option— so if a parent wanted a story read multiple times, it would have to be manually operated to restart.

The price point wasn’t horrible— but I wouldn’t say it was a steal. At $50.00 for the projector and three stories included, it would be on the median price mark side of educational toys I’d be willing to spend. You also have the ability to buy more story “books” that come in sets of 3 based on characters. Our daughter loves the Bernstein Bears, so we did end up purchasing an add on of books. With a plethora of titles to pick from, the Little Tikes Story Time Reader is a good investment for both little boys and girls alike.

Although, it was originally purchased for our one year olds room; the three and five year old were very interested in this toy as well and listened to stories read to them for well over an hour. It seems this toy would be good for ages 0-6 especially.

I’d give this an honest recommendation of 4 out of 5 ⭐️ due to the combination of durability of the toy, price range, and longevity of use. It would have been a solid five if it could have had a repeat option for story time.

We hope this review is a blessing to your family and encourages reading amongst the littles.
