Revamp Your Style: Building a Wardrobe for Today’s Body

If you took a screenshot of myself a year ago– I’d be twenty pounds lighter, but miserable.

Look back two years…and it’s 50 pounds lighter and in morning sickness. It hurts to even type that. But I have found that I cannot wait to enjoy the body I have today.

As we’ve overcome health hurdles and weaning off my medication for depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD– I find that I can still choose to feel pretty today.

Yes, I am in the process of eliminating unhealthy food choices.

  • Less trips to my favorite coffee shop.
  • Don’t buy sweet treats at the grocery store. If needed, limit to one dessert per month.
  • Look into healthy sugar free options.

Yes, I am in the process of doing more physical work that doesn’t feel like exercise.

  • House Renovations
  • Yard Work
  • Playing tennis with my husband
  • Pool time with the kids.

But.

I still have this desire to feel attractive.

I need to dress my body for today– and give myself permission to do so.

Just because I’m overweight, doesn’t mean I can’t put clothes on that make me feel attractive in my today body.

Dawn from The Minimal Mom talks in several of her videos on how to avoid decision fatigue with getting dressed in the morning. Everything in your closet you should feel good in– and everything in your closet should fit your today body. Here’s one of her videos to watch that can drastically improve your closet, mental state, and wardrobe all within a few minutes.

Blooming Wisdom

A fun fact I found out while writing Blooming Wisdom a few years ago involved clothes. We really only wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time. It should help you narrow down your closet when you only keep your favorites.

As July is almost halfway over, we can be looking over our shoulder at the upcoming season change. My challenge to you is to go through your closet this week– get rid of EVERYTHING that doesn’t fit or you don’t love. If you have a hard time parting with items– use a quarantine bin discussed in Blooming Wisdom. After you’ve done that…it’s time to go shopping!

Spoil yourself with 1-6 pieces that will carry you through right up into the cold season of Fall. We will pick those pieces out in September together.

Need help deciding where to shop?

Consider ordering time and tested pieces that just need replaced through Mercari. This is best for items you want to replace an original item with where you already know the size and fit desired. We do this option a lot for Esther’s clothes.

Consider supporting a local boutique or woman owned business. For this clothing refresh, I supported a local Southern boutique in Georgia called, Jules and James. See my own picks for the transitional season below. If you’ve never ordered from them, you can save 20% by signing up to their newsletter or downloading their free app. They have new clothes WEEKLY! I have a dress and shoes I got for them over the summer for date nights…and LOVE it! We are not affiliated with them– so this is a 100% Simply Shop recommendation.

Devotion of Encouragement

Her View From Home published one of our most popular body positive loving devotions earlier this year… if you haven’t had a chance to read it, check it out!

My Newest Closet Picks

I put away several pieces in a quarantine bin due to size…and threw away some I no longer liked and not worthy of donating. I’m excited to feel beautiful in a new, mini wardrobe. I am hoping the same for you!
