I secretly wish cell phones didn’t exist…
We were more likely to be present when there was a cord attached to the unlimited communication box.
One time my phone broke years ago, and it took two weeks to get a replacement in the middle of nowhere. I got to choose when and how I communicated.
I was fully engaged with people around me.
I slept better.
I was more present.
I wasn’t in the slightest worried about missing out.
It was amazing.
After that, I’ve always kept my phone on silent.
It bugs some people; but those who know me well actually know it’s a compliment.
Those standing in front of me are worth my full attention first.
1 Corinthians 6:12 (ESV)
“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.”
What is one simple thing today we can change to be more present? It could just be putting the phone in the junk drawer, or choosing to play worship music instead of your search and scroll today.
