{Desires}

When The LORD sat down with Abraham and told him of His future plan to have a son— his wife laughed. For ages Christians have given her a hard time; and slammed the Bible with a pointed finger in our face to not doubt the King of the Universe. But is that really the point He was trying to make in His Word? Yes, she doubted the very Creator who hides and knits His creations in a mother’s womb. It seems like an oxymoron— but she really believed a lie that He could not do what He said He would do.

Instead of looking at just her faith— do we believe a lie in our own life?

Maybe we believe a lie about our job status…
Maybe we believe a lie about our salary…
Maybe we believe a lie about ministry…
Maybe we believe a lie that it’s for some but not for me…
Maybe we believe a lie that I have to live with this desire and not have it filled…

We have hindsight to know that The LORD did bring Sarah a son, Isaac. But she didn’t see the picture at the time we are now blessed with today. Her story wrapped a very vital lesson that needs to be seeped into the business world we are in daily: taking a heart desire, and twisting it into what we think it should be and how it should turn out— and choosing not to distort biblical Truth by missing the caring heart and wisdom behind it all.

Sarah had waited a long, long time to be a mother. She had probably numbed up her emotions and did not believe the LORD could reach that spot in her desires that He placed purely in her heart.

Maybe her friends said it was a pipe dream, or it will not happen…
Maybe she thought she heard Him wrong and replayed the message a thousand times…

Maybe it was not a yes immediately and so she thought it would always be a no…

And after mulling it over she decided she must do something to make this decree of God come to be. It wasn’t happening when she wanted too. She had put her nose to the grindstone and still, still an empty womb. She was mistaken that it was her time to respond in action when in reality her action was to wait.

It was not a no— it was a not yet.

Then the LORD spoke Truth— and instead of trusting the LORD to reveal it in His time and in His way— Sarah took it upon herself to rush the process and cause immense heartache to many people. A child lost a father. A woman had a broken heart— jealousy, envy, and more bitterness swelled in Sarah. She tried to fill the hole in her heart with an earthly solution not a Heavenly seal of God’s Love.

Her past pain and differed, deep desire made her make a hasty decision that would break her own heart and distort the plan God had for her family. The LORD redeemed the situation and He was faithful in her faithlessness— but beyond her story— take this into your own life today.

How are we stepping into a place we were not called to make the move? How are we taking on a circle of responsibility we were never meant to take on? How are we forcibly trying to move forward when it is a time to just wait? How are we looking to be filled in something will ever fill us? How often have we doubted the pure goodness of The LORD? Do we not trust for Him to fill every pure desire in us? Do we not perceive that He gives us abundantly, and when we allow the King to move in His time and in His peace we will receive the blessings with great joy? Do we not realize that when we try and move in our time— we cause unnecessary heartache and pain not only to ourselves but others?

The way things had always been done by earthly standards was the expectation of Sarah— but God’s way exceeded all human standards expectations. No one knew how He would do what He did— and no one could deliver the blessing and fill that desire except the LORD Himself.

Some of us have expected the LORD to move how He moved for others; because it’s the general standard. But the move of God in your life may not be like others. Who is to say He has to move in ways that others expect?

We all may not be waiting on the LORD for the same answered desire— but we all have something that is waiting to be filled. A dream that is on pause or not moving into the pace we wish it would be. Our priorities at home might be out of whack, because we chase this dream with everything we have in us—while deserting those who we are called to serve today.

The LORD placed Your purpose, your dreams in the very depths of your heart when He knitted you. Let us take a moment to surrender at the possibility in having a heart shift today; and understand that He is not only faithful when we mess up and have great failures— but that He is so caring to give us the answers of our longing hearts abundantly in His timing. We will reach our goals not by working harder— but by leaning on Him more to fill us and show us His plan in the daily.

My prayer for you today is to know that the LORD is with you and that you receive His love— and therefore, see He is worthy of trusting of giving Him your day, your dreams— and know He cares the most out of everyone.

He did not give you pure desires to have them be distorted— He gave you desires to have them fulfill His purpose for His Kingdom and overflow you with great joy at the work of your hands.

Enjoy the work you do today— knowing it all matters now and in ten years. You are in a season now that will bless and affect your next season too.

A word of wisdom in love— some of the dreams we have in our business world really are just distorted dreams. We have this desire that we are trying to fill with an earthly dream that is meant to be completely filled by the Giver of pure desires. Distorted dreams can be transformed back in their pure desires by simple being in the presence of God and letting Him have your heart. He loves you too much to not want to give you everything in the fullest capacity available. His love is abundant for you!

Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV)

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:”

Psalm 37:4 (NIV)
Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Isaiah 43:19 (NIV)
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

Psalm 139:13-18 (NIV)
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!

Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—when I awake, I am still with you.
